1. Giới thiệu

Overview

Daviteq PPS sensor is a piezo pressure sensor with an isolated diaphragm. It can be used to measure the pressure of various media from vapor to gas, and liquid. With ultra-low power design, it can be connected to the reading devices such as Sub-GHz transmitter, Sigfox transmitter, LoRaWAN transmitter, RS485 output transmitter, etc.

Process connection: 1/2” NPT-male as standard, others please consult the factory.

2. Nguyên tắc hoạt động

A Piezo pressure sensor is a device that utilizes the piezoelectric effect to measure and convert mechanical pressure into an electrical signal. The piezoelectric effect refers to the ability of certain materials to generate an electric charge when subjected to mechanical stress or pressure.


The principle operation of a piezo pressure sensor involves the following steps:

  1. Piezo-electric Material: The sensor consists of a piezoelectric material, typically a ceramic material such as quartz or piezoelectric crystals like lead zirconate titanate (PZT). These materials have the property of generating an electric charge when subjected to pressure or stress.

  2. Sensing Element: The piezoelectric material is shaped into a sensing element, usually in the form of a thin disc or a diaphragm. The sensing element is designed to be mechanically sensitive to pressure changes. When pressure is applied to the sensing element, it undergoes deformation or displacement, causing mechanical stress in the piezoelectric material.

  3. Generation of Electric Charge: The mechanical stress or pressure applied to the piezoelectric material causes it to generate an electric charge. This charge is proportional to the magnitude of the applied pressure. The piezoelectric material acts as a transducer, converting the mechanical pressure into an electrical signal.

  4. Electrodes: The piezoelectric material is sandwiched between two electrodes, typically made of metal. These electrodes serve as electrical contacts to collect the electric charge generated by the piezoelectric material. One electrode is connected to the positive terminal, and the other electrode is connected to the negative terminal of the measurement circuit.

  5. Measurement Circuit: The electrical signal generated by the piezoelectric material is captured and processed by a measurement circuit. The circuit may include amplifiers, filters, and signal conditioning components to optimize the signal quality and make it suitable for measurement or further processing.

  6. Output: The output of the measurement circuit can be in the form of a voltage or current signal, which represents the pressure applied to the sensor. This output can be displayed, recorded, or used for control purposes in various applications.

3. Hiệu chuẩn

It is recommended to recalibration the sensor in the interval of 12∼24 months by using a pressure calibrator to generate the standard pressure to apply to the sensor. Please check the below picture.


The hand pump is a pressure generator. The Fluke is a high accuracy pressure sensor to measure the actual pressure generated by the hand pump.


To calibrate, generate 2 pressure points within the measuring range of the sensor:

  • Low-pressure point, for example: 1 barg

  • High-pressure point, for example: 10 barg


Record the reading values corresponding to those 2 pressure points. Then calculating the new scaling factor A & B.


Using an offline tool or downlink message (check the Payload document) to write the new A & B factors to the sensor.

5. Installation Notes

  • Please do not hold the upper housing to install the sensor; it will cause the sensor probe to disconnect from the electronics housing.

  • Only use a wrench to turn the process connection part of the sensor to install or remove.


6. Troubleshooting

1. The measured value is not within the expected value

  • The sensor is drifted over time: Re-calibrate the sensor.

  • The sensor was spoiled due to some reason or the water hammer effect: Replace the new sensor


2. The measured value is always zero or near zero

  • There could be leakage so that the pressure is not contained: check the leakage of piping or process connection of the sensor.

  • The sensor was removed from the process: Please check the sensor installation.


3. HW_Error = 1

  • Loosed connection of sensor module and wireless transmitter: Check the internal wiring.

  • The sensor module got a problem: Please consult the manufacturer for a warranty or replacement.

7. Maintenance

Re-calibration: Approx. 12-24 months

The pressure sensor may be drifting over time.
